Darmstadt

Main Fire Station

A modern facility that brings people, technology, and operations together efficiently. Discover how a key building block for Darmstadt’s safety is taking shape here.

As the new main location for the Darmstadt Fire Department, a construction site of approximately 30,000 m² is planned in the western part of Darmstadt. A main fire station will be built here using solid construction, with a total floor area of 25,000 m², including parking spaces for 37 emergency vehicles. In addition to housing the personnel and vehicles for daily emergency response, the building will accommodate the control center for non-police emergency services in the Darmstadt area, as well as rooms for the command and disaster management staff. The station will also serve as the new location for the city’s crisis management team.

The logistics and workshop areas required to maintain the operational readiness of the fire service will be established at the main fire station. In addition, the building will include rooms and training areas for the education and further training of full-time and volunteer firefighters as well as paramedics. Administrative offices and storage for the departments of operations, the lower disaster control authority, fire prevention, technical services, and in-house administration will also be accommodated within the station.

The new fire station is part of the city’s critical infrastructure and must remain fully functional even in crisis situations. Operations at the station and the control center run continuously throughout the year. The station is designed to accommodate approximately 140 personnel. In the event of major incidents, off-duty personnel and volunteer fire brigades are called in to support staffing. The station also provides for the needs of its personnel, including kitchen, dining, and storage facilities.
